Ilmarë was briefly mentioned in one of J. R. R. Tolkien's books. 

"Ilmarë was chief amongst the Maiar and the handmaiden to Queen Varda. Ilmarë was the greatest and most powerful of all the Maiar. She was the handmaiden of Varda (thereby a guardian spirit of the stars) and one of the chiefs of the Maiar." 

Ilmarë is also the single known natural satellite of the Kuiper Belt planetoid 174567 Varda.
